Sometimes obsessions are healthy and sometimes they are not. I like to think that the constant flow of ideas that I have on food is healthy, though ask some of my friends and you may hear differently.

I am not a chef. I have never been to culinary school or worked the restaurant scene (except one). My culinary knowledge is tiny but my desire to learn is enormous. At the same time, my understanding of food politics is hearty and those issues are of equal importance to me and this site.

This blog has 3 purposes:

1. To share my kitchen and menu planning so that anyone may understand that eating organic or local or seasonal or whatever can be affordable. My wife and I live under a strict budget, but we are both committed to spending the time and money on creating healthy and exciting meals for friends, family and ourselves.

2. To examine, debate, criticize and question current articles, blogs and information regarding the politics of food, in all of its depth and glory.

3. To develop an interdisciplinary and multimedia curriculum for social studies teachers on the theme of food, so that students learn relevant and meaningful content and teachers provide challenging and thoughtful assignments.

As for me, I live in Portland, OR. I am a social studies teacher, a menu consultant and an idea machine. I love food and I really love sharing the possibilities of food with others.
