Where in the world have I been? It’s been WAY too long since I last wrote a post for the site. I don’t know how many of my readers are bothered by this. I know I think about it more often than not. It’s gotten to the point where I’d rather think less and do something about the prolonged gap. And so here I am, writing a comeback statement – aka – comeback post.
Originally, I started this blog for 2 reasons: 1. I have a passion for food and all its forms and cultural meanings; and 2. I was unemployed. As you might expect, the second reason has changed a bit since I began writing in September. Though, there are a number of reasons why my ability to write regularly has dissipated. Here’s a list to consider:
- work opportunities picked up
- the elimination diet and the constant requirement to cook at home every night
- teaching my food literacy class and trying to get the class beyond 2 schools
- social life + warm weather = more socializing
- the feeling that I don’t have to write everyday
The combination of these issues is a good starting place to explain my recent absence. And yet, I am adamantly opposed to becoming the blogger who writes once a week or even once a month. There are many, many topics, articles, ideas and news reports to discuss. Sometimes I don’t know where to start. Other times I don’t feel like sitting down and writing a post. (The average post takes 60-90 minutes of research and writing.)
The warm weather doesn’t help! The more opportunities to play outside, the less time I commit to sitting on a computer. It’s not that I want to write an entry whining or complaining about m lack of posting lately (though that is what I’m doing!), I want to own up to my initial commitment to this blog.
The reality is that I have a lot to say all the time. For the next several months the weather will only improve. In time I hope to find a balance between writing and playing. I hope to get back into the swing of things in the next couple days. Though I am leaving on Wednesday for several days. Come May, I hope to return regularly to the site. I’ve got many projects up my sleeves and I think its time to start sharing them with all of you.
