Edible Portland, Spring 2010

If you live in Portland and have ANY interest whatsoever in food, you have to get yourself a copy of Edible Portland. This local publication is one of dozens provided around the nation. Edible Communities is a national organization that helps publish local issues. If you live in a city or near a major urban locale, you are likely to find a copy of this magazine.

The focus of every issue is local food – farms, markets, recipes, seasonal food, movements, programs and advertisements by independent businesses (minus the occassional Whole Food’s ad.) I love this magazine. I’ve always promoted the ideal of eating seasonally, and this publication is an excellent resource to live by this goal. Every season they publish a listing (in the magazine) of seasonal ingredients, including: vegetables, fruits, herbs, mushrooms and seafood. For the hardcore locavore, you could plan all your meals only using the ingredients listed in each issue.

The Spring issue was recently published and can be found for free at coops, New Seasons and other independent businesses in town. I suggest you get yourself a copy and feel the inspiration!
